01Start setup

Open FERMI and choose Use this computer. On Your documents, add a folder you know or choose Next to continue without one. You can add folders later on Documents.

02Prepare a local model

In setup, choose the local model option. Approve its download or provide the prepared files. Wait for verification to finish. Choose Next, review your network preferences, then choose Finish.

03Start with an everyday task

Open Ask and describe what you want help with. Include the details that matter, then use a follow-up to refine the answer.

Help me plan a week of simple dinners for two. Each meal should take less than 30 minutes.

Then, in the same conversation, try: “Turn that into a shopping list.”

04Ask something your documents answer

If you skipped documents during setup, open Documents and add a folder you know. Wait for its files to finish reading, then open Ask. Use a specific question about that folder.

For an invoice-policy document, for example:

When are invoices due?

Compare the answer with the original passage, not just the citation label.

If the answer is missing

The document has not been read

Open Documents, check the file’s status and resolve any reported error.

The question is not covered

Try a fact you know the document contains.

Only matching passages appear

Check the local model is enabled and ready.
