Installation

Put your private assistant on your own computer.

01Choose your download

On Downloads, choose your operating system and processor. Use Apple Silicon or Intel for your Mac, x64 or ARM64 for Windows and Linux.

02Install and open FERMI

Windows
Run the EXE installer, then open FERMI.
macOS
Open the DMG, copy FERMI to Applications and open it there.
Linux
Install the DEB on Debian or Ubuntu, or make the AppImage executable and open it.
  1. Choose Use this computer.

    Pick this on your main computer.

  2. Or choose Connect to FERMI on another computer.

    Pick this on every other computer.

  3. Add your documents.

    Add a folder during setup, or choose Next and add it later.

Check

FERMI opens to setup.

Pair your phone

  1. Install FERMI on your phone.

    Get it from the App Store or Google Play on Downloads.

  2. Open FERMI on your computer.

    Leave it open.

  3. Scan the code, or type the address.

    Pairing works on your home network. For elsewhere, see Remote Access.

Your documents stay yours

FERMI never changes your original documents. It keeps its own data here:

$XDG_DATA_HOME/fermi, or ~/.local/share/fermi

To back it up, quit FERMI and copy the folder. Uninstalling keeps this folder unless you choose to remove it.

Work locally

With a local model installed, answers need no internet connection.

Models download from Hugging Face and their engines from GitHub, only when you choose. Automatic updates check GitHub once a day and can be turned off.

A cloud provider receives your question and matching passages only if you turn it on. AI tools you connect can receive passages through the Model Context Protocol.

If FERMI will not open

Check the package matches your operating system and processor. Keep the exact installation error and product version when requesting help.
